Although it does cost a little more than other brands, The Baby Call Nursery Monitor is the best quality baby monitor for the money. It has a strong 900 MHz signal and a very sensitive voice activated transmitter which minimizes background noise so you can hear your baby's movements and breathing. It is ultra quiet and the audio is very clear, and unlike most baby monitors, there's NO STATIC.
If the frequency between the transmitter and the receiver don't match it has an indicative beep to inform you (while most other products just give you static). A truly unique baby monitor feature!
You can easily set and change the frequency using the red green and yellow color code system, and with 27 channels you won't have to worry about interference if you have a lot of electronic gadgets in your home, or even a second baby monitor. Granted, most people will probably never need 27 channels, but most other baby monitors only have two channels.
The receiver has a belt clip so you can take it with you when you're gardening or cleaning the pool, and this baby monitor is water resistant so it's great for use in your kitchen or bathroom too.
The volume control is separate from the on/off switch so you can set the volume and leave it. However, like most baby monitors, it is easy to turn the volume down so low in your sleep that you don't hear the baby at all.
This baby monitor has an out-of-range alert that can also be triggered by walking thru the signal path, which might be a source of frustration.
It has a long-life rechargeable battery so there's no need for constant replacement of batteries. On the down side, it only gives you a few seconds warning when the battery does die, and battery replacement from Sony is rather cost-prohibitive. However, there is a replacement battery available from Radio Shack for only $10.99. (product # 23-9086)
So if static doesn't bother you, you could save a few bucks on a cheaper model baby monitor, but if it's quality you want, here it is.
